No. The standard boxes remain part of the puzzle. Hyper regions are added on top of them.
Hyper regions are additional 3×3 areas that must contain every digit exactly once, just like a standard Sudoku box.
Avoid solving the puzzle as if it were Classic Sudoku. The extra regions are active constraints throughout the solve.
Many players find it more challenging because of the additional regions, but those regions also provide extra information that can help with deductions.
Other region-based variants are natural next steps if you enjoy puzzles built around overlapping restrictions.
